How do I improve my English pronunciation is a question we get asked a lot on Forvo. Many of you use Forvo to help improve your language skills in a variety of languages, but English - widely considered to be the international language of communication - is the most-listened to language on Forvo.
In this blog post we'll try and explain how you can use Forvo to improve your English pronunciation.
Firstly, try out our new eLearning section! We've come up with a flashcard system which you can use to test your pronunciation. Simply choose which level (beginner, intermediate or advanced) most suits your English skills and let our algorithm do the rest. As well as presenting you with word pronunciations, you'll also get to hear an example of how that word is pronounced within a phrase. Be sure to listen carefully and repeat the phrase out loud as many times as you like to make it stick. The cards are designed for self-assesment and they keep track of your progress.
Secondly, create a user on Forvo and add words you find difficult to pronounce to your favourites list. This way you can access these words whenever you like even when you're on the go using the mobile version of Forvo or through one of our apps. An important consideration is also deciding on which variety of English you'd like to be able to speak. Bear in mind that each pronunciation on Forvo is geo-located, so that if you want to learn American English pronunciation, for example, you can add pronunciations made only by American speakers.
Thirdly, watch our video section. You'll find some videos here with tips on how to improve your pronunciation in English based on situations you might find yourself in.
Finally, practise, practise, practise. There's nothing like listening to native speakers. If you don't have direct access to one, try watching videos on YouTube or films in English.
We hope these tips help. If you have any questions about how to use these features feel free to get in touch with us on Twitter or by email.
