My accent is from South West Arkansas which comes with its own nasally version of Southern accent. As an aside, my accent is pretty fruity and queer. My gender (culturally) is Non-Binary (or Gender Queer), meaning I identify neither as a man nor as a woman, but outside the binary limit of the masculine-feminine spectrum. When referred to I suggest using they/them/their/theirs in their singular forms (the same as their plural) rather than he/him/his. Listed below under the gender category my biological sex is listed, male. The reason that's important, is that cultural gender tends to have an effect on not only the timbre of one's voice, but also the whole accent, so you're hearing a queer Southern accent from a male-bodied person. If you were born before 1980, just think of it as a gay man's accent and that'll give you the idea. :) Sometimes I think of my gender as a field of flowers...
Also, I have German, English and Irish heritage, which is important for you to know because we in North America with European roots have been lumped together culturally into a "race" called "white." As a result, in the South and many places in the North, European Heritage folks in any specific region generally have the same accent, with minor differences based on class. Mind you, there are hundreds of Southern accents. Try comparing my accent to someone from central Georgia.
Lastly, as a Southerner, I am grateful that you are interested in my accent for such a cause of sharing language on a global database, which I believe is a way we share our culture and learn from each others' way of communicating. In every institution I've been a part of (especially academic), I've experienced the oppression of accent erasure for everyone who was raised with a Southern accent of any kind and this is one of the few places I feel comfortable (and even celebrated) for a culture which (historically and to this day) there is not much to be proud of other than our ability to communicate with unique dialects and the resilience of colorful cultural celebration in the midst of the European Patriarchal Empire. I hope my pronunciations of words bring new insight to your study of English.
